We were up at the crack of dawn today, knowing we had a lot to cram into daylight hours (it gets dark here about 5.30pm, being Winter). We packed the car and were stunned at how much extra we had after only one week. What"s it going to be like after 5???
Anyway, we had to make a last farewell stop at The Hollywood Cafe for a last breakfast. It's sooo yummy- we'd recommend it to anyone heading to San Francisco!
Although we had walked down Lombard St, Bry wanted to down down it before we left. It was only 5 minutes away from where we were staying so off we went.

We had a lovely drive down...and now Bry can say he's done it!
We set the GPS for Gilroy (the Garlic Capital of the World) and off we went. Our journey south took us along the Embarcadero...

We left San Francisco and headed down 101 to Gilroy. The reason for this visit to a town you would normally drive through was Factory Outlets!!!!! Over 120 shops in all. It's separated into 4 blocks and we only managed 2 in 3 1/2 hrs. More goodies to bring home!

Stopping for a coffee and a "Holiday Turkey Sandwich" |
We continued on down the 101 and then turned off for Monterey. We stopped and had a look around famous Cannery Row (We didn't see Clint Eastwood though)

We had planned on driving Highway 1 down the coast, through Big Sur, but unfortunately, due to the heavy rain over the past few days, there was a big rock fall and the road was closed. So we headed back to 101 and drove for another 2 1/2 hours down to Cambria.
By the time we arrived in Cambria it was dark but what a beautiful little town it is at night. All the shops and hotels are beautifully decorated with Christmas lights.

We headed to our accommodation for the night, checked in and then headed back into town for dinner. We chose "Lombardis" a delicious Italian restaurant. As soon as you walked in the door you could tell it was going to be good as the smell was amazing. Bry had Chicken Parmigiana and Mum and I had fettucine with chicken in a pesto sauce. It was sooooo scrumptious!! Lauren and Taylor ended up eating half of it because it was so good.

Back lying in bed now, ready for sleep. We're looking forward to seeing Cambria in the daylight tomorrow!

Dear TMac and LMac!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great Christmas! Santa Claws (the cat santa) brought Heather and Lorcy lots of treats - Lorcy especially liked them and didn't even try and do what he normally does (you know what I mean LMac). Yesterday I was very brave and went to the dentist to get a big tooth out - I put it in a bag to take to school to show you, but I ended up feeling sick just looking @ it, so threw it out. I can't wait til I see you both when school starts, don't forget to bring lots of photos to share with the class TMac!
